Discovery Call
A simple place to start when you’re wondering if we’re the right fit.
A Discovery Call is a complimentary 15-minute phone conversation designed to help you learn more about naturopathic medicine and what working together could look like. You’ll have the opportunity to briefly share what you’re looking for support with, ask questions, and get a feel for my approach before deciding on your next step.
There’s no expectation that you need to have your health figured out before we talk.
This call isn't intended to assess, diagnose, or create a treatment plan. It's simply an opportunity to connect, learn more about my approach, and get a sense of whether my collaborative, whole-person style of care feels right for you.
Initial Naturopathic Consultation
Your story gives us the pieces. Together, we’ll connect the dots.
Your Initial Naturopathic Consultation is a dedicated 60-minute appointment to understand you and your health as a whole. We’ll talk through your current concerns, symptoms, medical and family history, medications and supplements, nutrition, movement, sleep, stress, digestion, hormonal health when relevant, and previous blood work or testing. Instead of viewing each concern in isolation, I’m looking for patterns and connections that can help us determine where to focus first.
This appointment is for anyone who wants a deeper understanding of their health. You may have been living with fatigue, digestive concerns, hormonal or menstrual symptoms, pain, metabolic concerns, poor sleep, stress, or simply a feeling that you’re not functioning at your best. You may also be feeling completely overwhelmed by conflicting health information and unsure what actually applies to you.
Follow-Up Naturopathic Consultation
Your health changes, and your care should change with it.
Follow-up appointments are where we take what we've learned and keep building. We'll check in on how you've been feeling, what's improved, what hasn't, and how the recommendations are actually fitting into your day-to-day life. If something's working, we build on it. If something didn't, we talk about why and adjust, because your plan isn't meant to stay static, it should evolve as we learn more about you.
You never need to come back having done everything perfectly. Life gets busy, and routines don't always go as planned, follow-ups are where we troubleshoot that together rather than treat it like a failure. My goal is for you to leave each appointment understanding where you are, what we've learned, and what comes next, so you keep building confidence in managing your own health.
Comprehensive Lab Testing
Testing with a purpose, so your results actually help guide your care.
Laboratory testing can provide valuable insight into your health. I recommend testing when it helps answer a specific question, uncover potential contributors to your symptoms, or guide the most appropriate treatment plan.
Depending on your concerns, this may include standard blood work through LifeLabs in Regina or specialized testing such as GI-MAP, SIBO, cortisol, food sensitivity and allergy testing, Organic Acids Testing (OATs), MycoTOX, or the DUTCH Test when appropriate.
You don't need to come to your first appointment with a list of tests already completed. We'll begin with a conversation about your health, your concerns, and your goals, then decide whether testing would help provide a clearer picture of what's going on.
Constitutional Acupuncture
Individualized acupuncture that looks beyond where you feel the symptom.
Constitutional Acupuncture uses a Traditional Chinese Medicine-based approach that considers your symptoms within the context of your overall health, rather than simply placing needles where you feel discomfort. Treatment points are selected based on your unique presentation, health history, and what we’re working toward. Acupuncture may support concerns such as pain, headaches, stress, sleep, digestion, hormonal health, fertility, and overall well-being. Many people also find treatments deeply relaxing, offering a chance to slow down and reconnect with their health.
Your first appointment includes time to discuss your concerns and goals before beginning a treatment tailored to you. Very fine, sterile needles are used at points selected based on your individual presentation, and treatments are adjusted as your symptoms and response change.
Acupuncture can be used on its own or as part of a broader naturopathic care plan. When appropriate, it may be combined with nutrition, lifestyle support, or other therapies to help you reach your health goals.
Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture
A whole-person approach to supporting your skin from the inside out.
Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture is a natural, Traditional Chinese Medicine-based approach to skin health and healthy aging. Very fine needles are placed at individualized points on the face and body to encourage circulation, support collagen production, and promote your skin's natural repair processes. It's a beautiful option if you're noticing changes in texture, elasticity, fine lines, puffiness, facial tension, or acne, with the goal of supporting your skin's natural processes rather than changing how you look.
What makes this approach unique is that it goes beyond the skin itself. Factors such as stress, digestion, hormones, sleep, and lifestyle can all play a role in skin health and are considered as part of your treatment. Depending on your needs, facial cupping, gua sha, or acupressure may also be incorporated.
Hi, I'm Dr. Kyra Widenmaier, ND —
My own health journey, including my celiac disease diagnosis, taught me how much can change when you finally understand what's happening in your body. That experience shapes how I practice today, taking the time to listen to your whole story, connect the dots, and build a plan that fits your health, your goals, and your life.
Whether we're working together through naturopathic medicine, acupuncture, or lab testing, my approach stays the same: evidence-based, individualized, and grounded in understanding you first.
My approach is collaborative, evidence-based, and built around your whole story
My approach is collaborative and step-by-step. I think of health like a tree: symptoms are often what we notice above the surface, but we also need to pay attention to the roots. We’ll look at foundational areas such as nutrition, movement, sleep, stress, digestion, lifestyle, and your broader medical history while considering what matters most to you.
You won’t leave with a generic list of everything you “should” change. We’ll prioritize your next steps and create an individualized treatment plan that fits into your actual life. Depending on your needs, recommendations may include nutrition and lifestyle changes, supplements, acupuncture, cupping, soft tissue work, additional laboratory testing, education, or other naturopathic therapies.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Naturopathic medicine is a form of primary healthcare that looks at you as a whole person rather than focusing on one symptom or diagnosis in isolation. It combines modern medical knowledge with evidence-informed natural and therapeutic approaches, while considering areas such as nutrition, digestion, hormones, sleep, stress, movement, and lifestyle. Depending on your individual needs, care may include nutrition and lifestyle recommendations, supplements, botanical medicine, acupuncture, physical medicine, and laboratory testing. The goal is to help you better understand your health and create an individualized plan that makes sense for you.
-
Your first appointment is a 60-minute conversation about your health, your concerns, and your story. We’ll go through your health history, symptoms, medications and supplements, nutrition, lifestyle, sleep, stress, digestion, and any previous diagnoses or testing that may be relevant. From there, I’ll start connecting the different pieces of your health and determine where it makes the most sense to begin; physical exams or additional laboratory testing may also be recommended when appropriate. You’ll leave with personalized next steps that are introduced gradually so your plan feels realistic and manageable.

Many extended healthcare plans provide partial or full coverage for appointments with a licensed Naturopathic Doctor, although coverage and annual maximums vary between insurance providers and individual plans. I recommend checking your benefits before your appointment so you know exactly what your plan includes. Naturopathic medicine is not covered by Saskatchewan’s provincial health plan, so appointments are paid for directly and eligible expenses can then be submitted to your extended health benefits.
-
Naturopathic doctors work with a wide range of acute and chronic health concerns and consider how different areas of your health may be connected. In my practice, common areas of support include digestive concerns, hormonal and menstrual health, thyroid health, fatigue and energy, stress and sleep, metabolic health, skin concerns, pain and musculoskeletal health, reproductive health, pediatric health, and general or preventative care. You also don’t need to have a specific diagnosis to book — you may simply know that you don’t feel your best or want to take a more proactive approach to your health.
-
Naturopathic doctors in Saskatchewan are trained to assess, order, and interpret a range of laboratory tests when testing can provide useful information about your health. Depending on your concerns, this may include standard blood work through LifeLabs in Regina as well as functional testing such as GI-MAP, SIBO testing, cortisol testing, food and allergy testing, or hormone testing such as the DUTCH Test. Testing isn't ordered simply for the sake of collecting more information, I recommend it when the results can meaningfully help us understand your health or guide your treatment plan.

Acupuncture uses very fine, sterile needles, and most people find the experience much more comfortable than they initially expect. You may notice a brief pinch when a needle is inserted or sensations such as pressure, warmth, tingling, or a dull ache, but the treatment should not be painful. Once the needles are in place, many people find their treatment deeply relaxing — some even fall asleep. If you're nervous about needles, we can talk through the process before getting started.

Acupuncture involves stimulating specific points on the body using very fine, sterile needles. From a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective, I select points based on your individual pattern of symptoms and overall health rather than simply treating the area where you're experiencing a symptom. Acupuncture may be incorporated into care for pain and muscle tension, stress, sleep, digestion, menstrual and hormonal concerns, headaches, and overall well-being. Your treatment is individualized and may change from visit to visit depending on what we're working on and how your body is responding.
-
No, you don't need updated blood work before coming to see me. Your first appointment gives us the opportunity to understand your concerns and health history first, and from there we can determine whether additional testing would actually be useful. If you already have recent blood work or other testing, bring it with you so we can review what has already been assessed. This helps make sure we're ordering testing intentionally rather than unnecessarily.

Yes. Naturopathic medicine is a regulated form of primary healthcare in Saskatchewan when provided by a licensed Naturopathic Doctor. Naturopathic doctors receive training in clinical sciences, diagnostics, nutrition, natural therapies, and evidence-informed care and are trained to consider potential interactions between treatments, supplements, and medications. “Natural” doesn't automatically mean safe or appropriate for everyone, which is why recommendations should take your medical history, medications, and overall health into consideration. My goal is to provide thoughtful, individualized care that works alongside your existing healthcare when appropriate.

There isn't a one-size-fits-all schedule because the frequency of appointments depends on your concerns, goals, and where you are in your health journey. After your initial appointment, we'll determine what makes the most sense for you and your care. Some people benefit from closer follow-up in the beginning while we're implementing and adjusting their plan, while others may need appointments less frequently. As things change and you become more confident managing your health, the frequency of your appointments can change too.
